The module is taught in person over eight days across a three-week period, usually in March each year. It takes place at the University of °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ Moulsecoomb campus.
During the module, learners will participate in small group work and larger group discussions, designed to enhance their ability to critically engage with material.
Learners are supported to critically reflect upon and appraise complex information in relation to the process of undertaking an assessment as a Best Interest Assessor and to articulate the role of Best Interest Assessment.
Assessment
Learners will write a 2,500 word reflective essay based on an observed best interests assessment. Additionally, learners will be asked to submit an annotated BIA Form 3 (ADASS) which will evidence their ability to critically analyse and appraise information informing decision-making.
The assignments are designed to enable learners to evidence their understanding and ability to apply relevant legislation, considering the necessary Code of Practice, case law and other practice guidance concerned with Deprivation of Liberty Safeguarding Assessments.
